When searching for GSTIN by business name, it is important to distinguish between two concepts:
- Legal Name: The exact name registered with the Income Tax Department on the entity's PAN card (e.g. "Ramesh Kumar" or "Infosys Limited").
- Trade Name: The commercial brand or shop name under which business is conducted with customers (e.g. "Ramesh Electronics"). Under GST, one legal entity can register multiple trade names.
