Under Rule 12A of the Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Rules, 2014, every individual who holds a DIN as of March 31 of a financial year must submit their DIR-3 KYC or web-based KYC to the MCA on or before September 30 annually. Failure to do so deactivates the DIN with status "Deactivated due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC" and incurs a ₹5,000 late penalty fee.
